Akra and BMC Race Air Filters

I've a '01 12 with an Akra Evo running K&N air filters, no PCIII. It runs fine now. My BB brain seems to think if anything it'd be running lean since it has better air flow. I've just ordered BMC race air filters. If the BMC filters breathe better than K&Ns, wouldn't it be running even leaner? I've been told without a PC it'd run rich, which doesn't sound right to me.

You don't need a powercommander with those mods. Save your money.

the stock map I believe is richer than the map with the pc3r and akra.. Akrapovic and BMC race is a good set up Im running the same thing with a few other things.. I would skip the power commander myself,..

Thanks guys, you too Bob. I did a search on .org and didn't find an explanation. Did one here too. Bob call 'em as you see 'em. Works for me.

I had a pc3r originally but dumped it when that guy (forget his name) had his take a crap and hydro lock his #1 cylinder.

I was gonna buy a Yosh box but then discovered that the Yosh box uses the same cpu as the pc3r. Bike runs great without it, so I just decided to forget about it.

I do have the high altitude ecu for whatever thats worth.

if someone wants to send a k&n filter i will do a cfm check vs a bmc race filter vs a stocker vs a stocker with the screens removed.

I did do a check about 6 years ago when the bmcs came out but have long sence forgot and cant find the pressure data for the test. i do know the bmc race flowed the best even with a fresh un run oil job.

Update, I installed the PC several months ago using a map for stock air filters and Akra system. Couldn't find a map for BMC race air filters. It does run much better, especially bottom and midrange. I plan to go to Spencer Cycle sometime soon and get a custom map.

Had the Akra/BMC (street) setup on my 03 for about a year. Bike ran/sounded great. Installed a PCUSB with the Akra/BMC map from dynojet- better throttle response, feels much stronger as Kram said. No dyno to back up my seat of the pants impression, though... As Blitz states- you don't need the PC, but I think the increase in performance/drivability is well worth the money. Just my 2 cents.
