I am just going to switch back to the zx12r style 8 tooth crank wheel, the 24-2 wheel is for a motor with a max of 9.5:1 cr not 12.0:1 like mine so since the wheel gives me a great tooth pattern while cranking with the plugs out but not clean enough (it seems) while cranking with the plugs in I am just going to cut one tooth off the stock 8 tooth trigger wheel and run it like that. I realized that I was making it harder than it needs to be.

did you read the link i posted? at the bottom it was talking about high rpm/wheel teeth, but yes so far ive been fine with 1 tooth cut from the stock 8 tooth trigger wheel

Yep I have checked that link numerous times, I have adjusted the pots and tried a variable resistor I am going to try the 8 tooth wheel again because I got a very clean signal with that one when I started. I am going to try again tomorrow. I got the tooth removed and the wheels swapped today and I am going to try to check the timing tomorrow morning and start it if I can.

Ill keep y'all updated

I have it running again, I am tuning it on the stand today and taking it to the river as soon as the paperwork comes in with the reg numbers and Texas stickers, I swapped back to the 8 tooth wheel (none removed) and checked the timing and reset the number 1 tooth angle and it runs much better now. Interesting note, this motor will fire and run with almost 50 degrees of timing advance at idle... I shouldnt know that.

tooth angle was 90 based on my composite logs, I checked the timing with the light and 0 on the ms3 was still way advanced, I backed the number 1 tooth angle back to 45 and then to get the light to match my tdc mark I set it a 16.9 so I then moved the timing up to 61.9 and it was 0 again so its all right now.

I am now getting sync loss 17 which is weird because my cam signal is cherry looking, starts quick though

Changed out my vr sensor wires with monster cable mic cable, its a copper braided shield and 20 awg stranded copper wire. This helped a lot and its now running. I also switched to the 24-2 wheel and I am getting pretty good logs. I am having a lot of rpm hunting and a few lean spikes while trying to setup my idle. I had the idle screw set at 5% throttle and it was hard starting but It would idle indefinitely. I adjusted the tune and was able to back the idle screw down to ~1-2% and it would still idle alright but was still not starting as fast as I would have liked it. I backed it down again to 0.5% and It started up better than factory but had trouble staying running. I will be trying to change a few other things in the next few days to continue improving what I have gotten done. Here is a video from the other day.

Made a little progress today, the engine is running much smoother now since I fixed the vr cable, vacuum hoses, and got the throttle more or less set.

Still have a ways to go.

I would really like to take a look at a stroked zx12r timing map, I think I am having less than stellar results because my timing map is off. I am running an 83mm bore and a 69.2mm stroke so even if its just a +5 stroke it would be a step in the right direction.

Yep, you two got me taken care of. I am sincerely grateful for all the help I have been given to this point. I have been doing some research though and I think I may need to get some smaller throttle bodies. The way that this motor is set up I have a MAX redline of about 8400 before stuff starts to break up. I will also be setting it up similar to a LSR bike but with longer periods of WOT up to 3 hours at a time. The engine is a direct drive 1-1 ratio and the way that it sits now theoretical peak tq is at ~12,000 rpms based on runner length and throttle plate area, I am using stock size 2000 zx12r throttle bodies (46mm I think) with the stock length runners. I need to have peak tq about 7500-8000 rpms to get the most out of my impeller.

What do you guys think? I did some calculations and I think I need ~40mm throttle plates to make peak tq lower down.

stock cam timing for 2000 cams, the stroke is so long that the pistons break up due to the increased piston speed, they split around the piston pin if you have upgraded rods, if you run the stock ones they will break either from ovaling at the big end or breaking at the small end. I have it on good authority that if I keep it under 9000 with aftermarket rods and 83-8500 with stock ones I should be alright. Right now I am just playing it by ear to see how the stock zx throttle bodies work with my setup and I will change if I need to.
