Kawasaki halts sale of 2011 ZX-10R

Stop the presses! Bikeland has learned from an unnamed source within Kawasaki Heavy Industries that due to an engine design flaw, sales of the 2011 ZX-10R have been suspended and sold units are being recalled.

UPDATE: A day after Bikeland broke this story Worldwide, Kawasaki has issued an official press release announcing what we initially reported. In their release Kawasaki states that they will buy back any 2011 ZX-10Rs which have already been sold.

going to be a real problem - new bikes are all in crates in ships. will they turn the ships around and send them back? was this caused by the outsourcing (for the first time) to a plant in Thailand or simply a design flaw? Whay wasn't this caught in earlier testing? Could and should they have waited to release the bike and test it more thoroughly to avoid stuff like this? Maybe they could have got that 22hp back at the same time too with a little more thought, time and engineering.

One would think.

There will be much news on this to come.

Nobody was banned - the bs that belonged in the smackhouse was douched. This is a serious topic that effects a lot of owners and it's not going to be a fishing expedition for a few trouble makers. We get that people are upset about this, but this is NOT the place for personal attacks against anyone including the hard working staff of this site.

Thanks

This thead used to have 48 posts.

Fortunately, I don't think there are many 2011 owners at this point. Probably just a few have taken delivery, since the bike is so new.

Good to see Kawasaki step up to the plate to correct an issue. A lot of manufacturers would not make the effort....this has been seen MANY times in the past. Imagine having GSXR for a couple of years and then having to take it in to have frame plates epoxied in place. Ouch.

While I'm sure that everyone hates to see a recall like this, at least the manufacturer is addressing the issue in a responsible manner.

Shane

How long before we know the REAL story for the recall? If it was a design flaw the recall would be world wide, would it not?

Good Morning All,

I was at the dealership yesterday and asked about purchasing a 10R… They had them on the floor and basically said what colour, when I asked about the "technical hold" and the recall they informed me that yes there were a few units recalled (20 or so in the US) but Nil in Canada.

Have we heard anything else on this on the "net", or is the bike good to go…. Note I sat on it again and compared it to the BMW sitting a few feet away and while I do think it will require heli risers to make it a little more long range ridable for me, it is one hell of a nice looking machine.

If it is serious enough for a full recall then I would have to believe it is something with the limiting system. Maybe they sent unrestricted models and the US hammered them

Never heard of the term "surging" valve springs. I have heard of breaking valve springs or weak valve springs..

I kinda thought or assumed that is what they wer'e meaning "surging"doesn't sound as bad or as catastrophic as "floating"does to me.
