Here is one of my fake pics:
I used a block of wood and sandpaper to wear the fairing down - including a small hole.....also used it to sand my tires down and then filed the peg too :-)

What tires are you running?
You are the second guy I've seen scraping the plastics, thats really low!
Imagine the lean angle difference between the lowers being and inch away or touching. An inch down low is a few inches up higher and a lot of degrees of lean difference.
Scraping knees also depends on how far off the bike you are.
Great pics Fish! 1 more guy that shows this bike can corner.
What tires were both of you running?

Like I said.. the bike is BONE stock.
Ask freek... if that bike was any farther over it would be "one" with the pavement.

I decided to stick with the 014's. There are only 2 rear tires rated for this bike (I think) and since I was able to get all the perf I needed from it I felt that it was a good deal for me considering traction/wear/cost. I have heard of several guys hitting the plastics. I have my suspension set pretty stiff - stiff enough to almost bounce the bumps - and the forks slid up .75" making for some pretty good handling. As you lean the bike you (rider) move a lot over while the contact patch moves little - so to ride to the edge of the tire gets you to touch the plastic (with my set-up) I was paying more attention to the R1 behind me than hanging off - bad idea.........but he never got me :-)

Good to hear.
I also liked the B014's.
I replaced them with the Metzler M3's and was disappointed with their lack of "stick".
Those 14's gripped really well for me plus I could feel them on the road.
I was reading Motorcyclist mag this morning, they have tips for racing in there this month. One pro recommended not leaning off seat until you scraped bike parts. Of course this is probably track talk.

You have to lean off the bike when you can't get traction..........if you wait til parts of something like an R1 or GSXR touches down..............well - it will ALL be touching down by then...rider included. I hit the fairing before I ran outta tire........a real sportsbike is not going to be the same.

Just curious.........
What has anyone found to be bad about the Bstones? I don't ride in the wet.......maybe it doesn't work well in the wet?

I've nothing against any tire, but I'm partial to pilot powers. And I've never had pilot powers on my 14, but on my ZX9 there was pilot powers then "everything else". So really I've nothing against Bridgestones. Matter of fact, I got a set of PP's on standby. Not to stir a tire debate, there are several of those threads already out there....

I liked them.
Whats the difference between the pilot powers and the BT014's?
Everyone around here loves the PP's and won't use anything else but they all have 1000's and 600's.
In the back of my mind I like knowing the tire was rated for the ZX-14.
Hate to have a tire failure at speed.

I know several that run only PP's on the busa's, and they run at speed. Sure we can say the 14 is a couple of pounds heavier and sure maybe even a few MPH faster, but the difference is nill regarding tire failure. I trust the PP's with my life.

We rode them back to back with the Qualifiers... Dunlops felt considerably better IMHO.... just an opinion.

What's cool is that it's not his bike. Who'd have the nutz to do that on a loaner? Pretty ballsy if ya ask me.

Deal but there are many that are converting daily...
And i do agree that the 14 is probably a better bike all around - hell it's newer technology...

Or the bike is just really wide and naturally sits lower reduceing the effective lean angle...
I am not saying it doesn't handle good but there are other variables...

Luv my Pilot Powers. Better than the BT14's. They turn in better and notch in at full lean (for me, no C-strips ) But after burning off the BT14's I have to say they were not a bad tire. Good grip rhight out to the edge and lasted 4000 mi. IMO

I have a new set of CorsaIII for the 10R next The PP have a more pointed front tire design and they do turn in much better. The 014 front is very round across the width.
