Hi boys, I hope you’re well………..I haven't been here since building the 2000 Muzzy Kawasaki ZX1270 Project 10 yrs ago (I'm looking at it right now as it sits across the room from me in my office - albeit rebuilt as a 'naked' after a big crash at Mosport in 2010)........I've got one last build left in me and for my 60th B-Day I'm planning to make the 2013 ZX14 my canvas for a 'sport-touring' version. Hopefully the '13 bikes will be available within 90 days..........I plan on using the Muzzy twin can carbon fiber system rather than the usual single pipe if for no other reason than I think they make more torque where you need it -mid range - and IMO they look sexier. We'll also incorporate the ZX14 Concours bags...........Any thoughts, maybe someone did some comparison dyno work with single vs twins on a 2012?

The 14 colours will look very similar to the original combo we designed for the ZX1270 back in 2000, so stunning that the factory actually copied it in 2002.

Thanks very much for asking, yes I still have that fantastic Muzzy 1270 - along with many of my other project bikes and sleds (just sitting where I can see them). I had to 're-designed' the 1270 following a big crash in 2010 at Mosport, hence the naked look, which I think is really cool. Only problem with this type of ride, you better be hanging on when you go WFO or you'll be blown right off the back by the wind!

Cliff,
I remember you know. That 12 was hot I used to have a green 2000 that Carpenter did the motor and crank. It was all chrome hence the name chromedout12. Your 12 was a sweet ride. I love that Honda cruiser. How much did that thing cost?

Thanks gents, just great to be back on line and full of enthusiasm for a new build. As always, we'll gladly explain every mod once we get going and share our 'performance centric tips' with everyone. I'll be working closely with champions such as Rob Muzzy (who are not only the top of their game) but key sponsors to this project.........BTW these bike/sled projects I design are all very expensive to build, the Honda 'chromeless cruiser' for instance cost 150K to complete, HOWEVER, everything is usually factory and aftermarket supported - they provide the product, I produce the ink. These bikes and sleds all had their 15 minutes, having been showcased around the world in the major industry mags - so it's a win/win for everybody.
Much like the 1270 project I'll develop the maps etc and share them with all......These projects don't just look good, they all move. Back 12 yrs ago when we first got our hands on FI bikes we designed the "ram-air compensated (built on the back straight at Mosport) deceleration/smoothed' mapping, it changed the way these motors worked from the factory, which in many cases was poorly. We also soon determined that many dyno maps were too lean (no ram-air allowance) and the 'on-off light switch' FI throttle response, was just plain dangerous in a corner. If you've got a 1270, send me a note to cliff@randallsearch.com and I'll give you a map I'm sure you'll enjoy. No more 2000rpm hesitation etc. We also corrected the 4 into 1 idle lump, turned out to be a quick fix once we opened (drilled out) the TB air screws and turned them up a full turn or so and properly balanced the TBs. Our 1270 will idle smoothly at 600rpm if we wish. We also added timing back in the day (plus MR9) with the original PC3 built for the 12, one of very few power commanders with 'dynamic' ignition adjustment back then. Lots of other stuff went on as well, suspension mods (shimming triple clamps etc. etc. all the make the 12 a better bike - fun stuff......Looking forward to chatting with you and to building the 2013 Kawasaki ZX14'HT', the undisputed "King of the Road".
BTW - The maiden voyage of this rocket is slated for July 2013 when I'll ride it from Toronto to Banff Alberta and back.......in 4 hrs!!!!!!!

To make a decent sport-tour bike the 1st and foremost is it needs better distance between stops. At 29 MPG it just won't sport-tour out in the middle of mountains and deserts and such where we ride great distances with no gas around. I guess you could build a trailer for it to haul fuel. Needs clip-ons raised. Needs foot pegs lowered. Needs hard saddlebags and a rack from the subframe.
Can't think of anything it would need from Muzzy, but i reckon' bling is good or maybe it might get better distance between stops if a Muzzy design can increase fuel mileage to allow a moderate 200 or so miles between gas stops

where are getting 29mpg? I beat the crap out of mine and average 41mpg

This just in.....Dynojet has joined the list of North American industry leaders supporting our 2013 Muzzy Kawasaki ZX14HT project. We'll be using the always fabulous PC5 along with the PC Ignition controller, Auto Tune controller and the sexy and incredibly helpful 'dash mounted' Wide band LCD - all weather box.......Absolutely unreal tuning system, it'll be a rolling 'dynamic' dyno that registers real time air flow. Just change maps on the fly (with specific quadrants chosen) and let the big 14 tell you where it's happiest. This is the way we tuned the Muzzy 1270, on the back straight of Mosport (back then we added fuel etc to a dyno built benchmark map - they were always hot - and went back out on the track until we got it right) we assumed nothing and let the motor educate us - at the end of the day we had a 'ram-air compensated' winning map, with a little ignition here and there.......We've come a long way baby!
Should be exciting,

House of Kolor is now on board to handle the final finish on this project bike. John Conery of Connery's Custom Paint (Canada's finest '30 yr master custom painter') in Toronto will shot it with HofK black mixed with their latest 'ice gold' metal flake, gold trim and gold rims........Should look fabulous once it's done.
