Why does my bike crank so much to start?

I have a 2007 trex with a zx14 motor. It takes a while for it to start. It cranks and cranks for a good 5-10 seconds. Back fires once or twice then finally fires up.the starter jams up every now and then as we'll. any ideas?

MINE STARTS WITH A BUMP OF THE STARTER SWITCH . no more than 1 second. seem like the guys that made the trex screw up something.

Power Commander on it? I have recently been reading that Harley guys having longer cranking issues too...the reason is the PC turns off after the fuel pump cycles.

The solver was to crank as soon as you flip the power switch (or key) on.

I have started to do this with my Harley, and not really noticed a difference. I will try this method on my Yamaha snowmobile too this winter.

Every application for the PC is powered differently, some need just the key 'on'...others need either the engine running or the 9v battery to keep powered up.

Is the engine stock? Aftermarket parts? Causes could be ignition or valve timing... power commander... too rich or too lean... several things.. need more info on engine...

How clean are the spark plugs and are they gapped correctly? Check your coils and plug leads for problems as we'll.
