R1 goes to TN/NC/SC/GA

Another trip for the Yamaha. Two purposes of this trip were to ride one weekend with the folks I meet up in the mountains occasionally, and to be with mom on Mother's Day. I went up days ahead of my crowd and rode, and saw Ohlins, and messed around the 4 state area. As usual, the majority of these pics were taken with my Blackberry.

Unloading for the fun to begin in Asheville, NC

Quick stop by Builtmore House - Asheville (the rainy day)

Quick stop by Ohlins (the rainy day)

A little solo riding and carving some mountain roads before meeting the crew

I wish I knew where to find the sport bike rider that told me in his NC accent "thats the road right there, go yonder a few miles and you'll be past the driveways and traffic - the mountain is yours"

School bus held his side of the yellow line!

Heard a noise in the forest and zoomed in to find a waterfall

Beautiful long sweepers in succession

Then the crew trickles in a few bikes at a time (and very nice of a cruiser to park amongst us)

4 fast ladies

Quick ride up a mountain the eve of everyone's arrival and a convenient parking spot

We're off the next day for a long MTN ride and through the Snake

Good Times at The Snake's country store in Shady Valley, TN

Lisa on My bike

Me on Lisa's Gixxer 1K (she wiped out her Corona Suzuki bike, no more limes for her)

Quick break at Bristol motor speedway in TN on the way back to Asheville

Delicious BBQ joint in NC

Pretty gal on my bike, she wanted to sit on it in back of the truck. She trusted the canyon dancer tie down as much as I do

Parents take me to the roof top club in Columbia

The Vista, downtown Columbia. It was happening! Quick drop in on the way home to mom's before Mother's Day festivities

My brother has got a few grills going on at the park for Mother's day (and he has all the real pics)

Lake looked peaceful on Mother's Day

Another trip coming up in July at a minimum, but better than that I'm going to try and avoid the hot FL summer and spend a few months up there!

Nice trip and cool pics!

Slightly off topic here- I'm actually debating wether to get rid
of my motorcycle trailer and get a pickup truck and a ramp.
My SUV is not getting any younger and I need to get something
new soon. That Tundra is a nice machine for sure!

Would you mind posting a couple of lines about your truck
setup and experience with it and maybe a comparo if you use
or used a trailer.

Thanks

masszx14, I pulled a trailer with the truck one time and it sucked. parking was crazy or I had to park very far away from everything. plus just driving with it back there wasn't as much fun. I only use the trailer now when pulling multiple bikes

the truck has been incredible and taken the bike and I on many many trips. each trip a few thousand miles. the only thing i added to it is sirious satellite. it has the 380 HP motor, and 10,800 towing package. not bad for a 1/2 ton gasoline truck. an American truck has to be 3/4 ton to compete (F250, Chevy 2500), the American half tons can't. the Nissan Titan comes close, but can't and has less room. I truly enjoy my toyota.

the ramps I use are the sweet black widow ramps. I just drive my bike onto the truck. these are the ramps I use: http://www.discountramps.com/black-widow-motorcycle-ramp.htm

Thanks Steve!

I'll check the ramps and probably go that route too.

kewl, I bought the shorter of the ramps offered. they're more than long enough to load a lowered bike into your truck unless its a very jacked up, big wheeled truck

That's the one I'll order then

Do you know if my 14 at stock wheelbase
will fit in the Crew Cab Tundra? I noticed that
the bed is almost 20" shorter than on yours, but
I really like the full size back seats... my dogs will
like that more too!

Crew Cab Tundra <--the crew cab is a little shorter but should work.

the way to find out may be simply look at the bed length on the truck at toyota's site, then go to kawasaki's site and get the total length if they list it, if not get the wheelbase and compensate for a little extra length.

I leave my tailgate open for the hell of it. and all I strap mine down with is a canyon dancer. no chock or none of that useless fackin shit people in here preach. and mine's been hauled tens of thousands of miles without incedent.

I use a flexble cable with loops for a lock (Walmart 15 bux) and keep the ramps in the back of the truck when I haul rather than take back seat room

I looked at the bed lenghts and I think you have the 78'' bed.
If I remember right the zx14 is at 57.5" stock wheelbase.
The Tundra I like has a 60" bed- not enough even with the gate
down, the rear wheel will be at the very edge and that probably
is not a great idea.
I will call the local dealerships and I hope I can talk to someone
not completely retarded.

Thanks

Nice! I liked the bigger bed, with a few inches less back seat room - my back seats stay up and thats just a cargo area for luggage, gear, etc.

No baby seats for my Tundra! lol

No baby seats for me either, but between myself and my gf
we have 3 dogs and they demand to ride in comfort!

Will call around and check my options. My 2nd choice would be
a Nissan Titan.

Hey the Titan is still nicer than the 1/2 ton American trucks, but it lacks horsepower, towing capacity, and interior room of the Tundra!

Tundra is sweet! As a crewmax in new york, it would suck. Out here we have to put commercial plates on the truck and we cant drive in certain highways. I was considering one for the same reasons. I need the room and comfort inside the cabin as well. I may just look into the 06 tundra instead. Steve how is the tundra in gas mileage? Are you satisfied with what it gets in fuel economy?

The HONDA has new 2CT's, new Speigler brake lines, EBC HH pads, new Pazzo levers, and VORTEX rearsets will be here tomorrow. Thats all the Honda needs, its not a project bike like the R1 was.

This bike is going to the mountains next month for the summer I have a special friend hooking me up with a place in Asheville, after a cookout here on the 20th I'm going north!
