First Ride: 2012 Kawasaki ZX-14R

Bikeland's own Wheelie took delivery of his 2012 Kawasaki ZX-14R on Thursday and now shares his impressions of the new machine after getting some seat time. Lots more to come in our forums as more members get their very excited hands on the R that comes with the heavily reworked ZX-14.

2012 ZX-14R in the wild, at the drag strip. Real Rider. Production retail unit.

Credit for video footage and all photos goes to Wheelie.

Wish the video quality was better. Tomorrow will be 53 for the high here, maybe Lucky14 will come to Yello Belly drag strip and shoot some video of the ZX-14r, the track is the slickest in Texas, it would be great to try the traction control on,

Wheelie, what are you anticipating it will run tomorrow? How is it going to be set up?

It's been 7 months since I have been on a drag strip so I may be a little rusty, and I have to get use to stock wheelbase again, I just saw Kennedale is open all year round so I may go there to get real times, I'm more concerned with the mph not the et, that will show horsepower, the et will show my ability to ride a swb ZX-14r, the 14r has a Brocks front end lowering strap and brackets, rear has Soupys adjustable lowering links, Muzzy M14/10 from JZX Joey, no pc, I just filled up on pump gas so that will add weight hehe, that's it. 15 miles on the od, I will change the oil before I go.

Awesome, thanks. Hope to see some big mph, I know gen 1s where I'm at only run 146-147mph piped. Hopefully you have better air than I do.

Not gonna hit 50 degrees until 2 pm, according to weather.com.

Prolly not a good idea on a track with little to no prep at those temps. I assume that the stock tire is still on it.

EDIT: You just posted maybe Kennedale while I was posting. That *might* work ..........

If it doesn't move and should, use the WD-40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.

Lol, Oops. I'm curious to see when you will be able to get the throttle pinned, its going to be a bitch to ride short.

With today's air temp and a weight of 220 unsuited, on an 07, the mph for 1/8th mile is usually 121 with a few 122's. Stretched bike of course and geared too. I'm hoping the '12 model matches that mph or greater at swb. That would impress the hell outta me.

Rusty rider (sorry Wheelie!) on a SWB torque monster?
I'd be shocked if he matches a streched and geared 07 in the 1/8th.
