Team Makita Suzuki's Ricky Carmichael became the first rider to win three US Open Supercross events when he clinched victory at the Las Vegas MGM Grand Garden Arena at the weekend.

Carmichael got the holeshot and led all 25 laps in both Friday and Saturday night's races to take the prestigious overall victory, earning a $100,000 purse.

Carmichael is the 2005 THQ World Supercross GP Champion, the 2005 THQ AMA Supercross Champion, the 2005 AMA 250 Motocross Champion and he led Team USA to victory in the 2005 Motocross des Nations. In total, he has 13 combined AMA Supercross/ motocross titles and has 127 combined victories.

He said: "It has been an unbelievable year for me. I am really excited for Makita Suzuki and this is a big night for them. They gave me an opportunity, and we all worked together on this great season. It was unfortunate that Chad Reed and James Stewart could not race tonight. I sacrificed a lot to have such a great season and it was well worth it."

Carmichael and Team Makita Suzuki Racing's next event will be the opening round of the THQ World Supercross GP at the Skydome in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on December 3rd.
