In cooperation with Koelnmesse, the German Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers' Association (ZVEI) will be organising the "Second Expertise Meeting on Electric Mobility" on 3rd and 4th March 2010. The congress for decision-makers from the automotive, energy, electrical and electronic industries as well as the environmental protection sector will focus on how mobility can be made environmentally friendly for the long-term. The event will therefore address one of the key environmental protection concerns of the present day, and one which also offers good market opportunities for the participating sectors. The congress will be accompanied by a sector-specific exhibition titled “elektro:mobilia”, which will display the entire range of infrastructure components, extending from electric vehicles to services.

The exhibition will also feature the ColognEmobil project, which is being carried out by the industrial partners Ford and RheinEnergie AG. The project will be presented by the partners in conjunction with the City of Cologne and the University of Duisburg/Essen. The project’s aim is to test electric ¬mobility using battery-powered vehicles. The focus will initially be on inner-city transport services using battery-electric Ford Transit vehicles. In addition to testing drive and battery concepts, the partners also wish to test the construction and operation of charging systems, as well as the associated billing process, products and services.

The second expertise meeting will be opened by Friedhelm Loh, President of the ZVEI. Christa Thoben, Minister of Economic Affairs, Medium-sized Companies and Energy of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, and Reiner Bomba, undersecretary in the German Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development, will explain the political perspectives of electric mobility at state and federal levels. Other sector representatives, such as Peter Meyer, President of ADAC, and Dr. Franz Laermann, Management Board Member of Ford-Werke GmbH, will explain their positions with regard to electric mobility.

On the second day of the congress, high-ranking speakers will analyse the many aspects of electric mobility. In addition to the political situation and market opportunities, the speakers will highlight technical issues, such as cableless charging systems, billing concepts for electric vehicles, and the current status of battery development.
