Aubert, KTM's best E1 rider in final rounds in France; finishes second overall

2010-09-27 18:50
With conditions ideal for French riders accustomed to riding on slipper wet grass in the final two rounds of the E1 Maxxis World Championship Johnny Aubert was the best KTM rider in Noiretable, in central France both on Saturday and Sunday to finish second overall in the season's standings

The KTM factory rider Johnny Aubert topped the podium on Saturday to scrape back a few points in the leadership battle while teammate Eero Remes of Finland finished fourth, slipping slightly back on championship leader Antoine Meo in third place.

Aubert finishes second overall; Remes third
This set the stage for a title shootout on the final day but Meo was to prevail and Aubert and Remes both wound up the championship with 312 points, giving Aubert the advantage on the grounds that he had more victories. Meo took the title with a 20-point advantage. It was a creditable performance by Aubert, who was struck down with a mystery virus in the middle of the season causing him to miss races and having to fight his way back into the competition and regain his levels of fitness. The top three finish was also very strong for the young Finnish rider Remes, who has been consistent throughout the season.

The final two rounds proved to be a challenging weekend both from the weather and the difficulty of the track. Riders had to tackle technically difficult climbs and a long Enduro test of almost 10 km. The event was also well attended, reflecting the enthusiastic following of Enduro and the support for French riders at home in France.

EJ
With the world title In the EJ class already decided in favor of KTM rider Lorenzo Santolino of Spain, who raced this weekend in the E2 class, the best KTM riders on Saturday were Finland's Antti Hellsten and Toby Price of Australia. Hellsten was back on the podium on Sunday, again in second place, while Mario Roman of Spain was a good fifth and Price, who has only raced several of the world championship events, was sixth. Lorenzo was eleventh on Saturday in the E2 class but did not finish on Sunday.
