The final total raised by the ‘We are for Japan’ campaign was announced at the Twin Ring Motegi circuit ahead of the Grand Prix of Japan, where a presentation of a cheque for €104.882 will take place on Sunday prior to the MotoGP race.

The ‘We are for Japan’ campaign, which was launched to raise funds for those affected by the March 11th earthquake and tsunami, incorporated a specially made t-shirt signed by all 17 MotoGP riders, over 9,000 of which were sold as MotoGP fans displayed their support for the victims of the disaster.

An eBay auction of one of two of the original signed t-shirts – from which the replicas were reproduced – raised €2,750 alone.

In the interval between the Moto2 and MotoGP races at Motegi on Sunday a group of MotoGP representatives comprising FIM President Vito Ippolito, Dorna Sports CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta, IRTA President Herve Poncharal and Japanese MotoGP rider Hiroshi Aoyama will hand over a cheque for the total amount raised by the entire campaign to Takayoshi Sakuma, Mayor of Ichihara Town, Chiba Prefecture, and Masao Masuda, Deputy Mayor of AsahiTown, Chiba Prefecture, who will also be presented with the other signed t-shirt.

The two Prefectures will oversee the distribution of the funds which will assist with the recovery effort.
