Bikeland fundraising for the UCLA Jonsson Cancer Center

Anaheim, CA: Today Bikeland.org published a charity drive for UCLA's Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center, with the goal of raising a minimum of $2000 via donations from Bikeland members and readers. Beyond the obvious motivation of giving to a highly rated, registered charity with a universally supported cause, extra motivation is offered by shaving Bikeland's co-administrator's overgrown hair and beard when the goal is met, with the hair going to Locks of Love to be used to make wigs for children who have lost their hair to illness.

About the Jonsson Cancer Center Foundation (JCCF)
JCCF is a public benefit corporation that exists for the express purpose of raising and distributing funds to support leading-edge cancer research at UCLA's Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center (JCCC). The JCCF was founded in 1945 by a group of volunteers dedicated to cancer research at UCLA. Their idea, using funds raised from private sources to invest in the work of promising young cancer researchers, resulted in the Seed Grant Program, which has helped the JCCC break new ground in the quest to defeat cancer. Although seed grants remain an important part of JCCF's mission, the Foundation today also supports numerous high-priority, multi-disciplinary cancer research efforts focused on rapidly translating discoveries made in the laboratory into improved screening, treatment and prevention. http://www.cancer.ucla.edu/index.aspx?page=8

About Locks of Love
Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under age 21 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis. We meet a unique need for children by using donated hair to create the highest quality hair prosthetics. Most of the children helped by Locks of Love have lost their hair due to a medical condition called alopecia areata, which has no known cause or cure. The prostheses we provide help to restore their self-esteem and their confidence, enabling them to face the world and their peers. http://www.locksoflove.org/
