Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Savatgy Remains In The Hunt With Indianapolis Runner-Up Finish

2017-03-20 08:54
Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Joey Savatgy earned his second consecutive runner-up finish, helping him stay in the hunt for the championship after five of nine rounds. Teammate Adam Cianciarulo overcame an issue in practice to rebound for a fifth in the main event and still holding on to third in the championship standings

Savatgy came into the night event as the top qualifier ready to showcase his speed in the heat and main event. He raced well in the heat race where he finished third. When the gate dropped for the main event, it was another Pro Circuit holeshot as Savatgy led the field around the first corner, settling into the lead. He maintained the top spot until he was basically hit and passed around the halfway point of the race. Savatgy didn’t give up and narrowly missed the top spot, finishing just 2 seconds back of the winner.

“We made some progress tonight, but I didn’t feel like I got into my groove until later in the race,” said Savatgy. “I got a little tight and after Zach (Osborne) went by, I got into a better rhythm and did my best to find an opportunity. We still have three big races left in the season and I’m ready to push until the end.”

Cianciarulo came into the round with newfound confidence, but was forced to overcome adversity after going down in second practice and finding himself with less track time going into the night show. He was able to ride to a solid third-place finish in his heat, putting him in good position for the main event. He stared the 15-minute main event in sixth and as the leader pack rode away, Cianciarulo was able to move into fifth. He put in a solid effort, and finished the night in fifth.

“The day was decent considering how it started with the mishap in practice,” said Cianciarulo. “Overall the result - I don’t like getting fifth place, but considering the circumstances and not feeling 100 percent, I feel like we salvaged a lot of points.”
