RCH/Yoshimura/Suzuki Factory Racing Looks to Keep the Wheels Turning at Round 5

With both riders squarely inside the top six in points, RCH/Yoshimura/Suzuki Factory Racing looks to keep the momentum rolling this weekend when the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship returns to Muddy Creek Raceway for Round 5 of the 2017 title fight.

Broc Tickle, rider of the No. 20 Suzuki RM-Z450, sits fifth in points and leads the RM Army into Blountville, Tenn., fresh off his first podium finish of the summer season.

Tickle’s RCH stablemate Justin Bogle is sixth in the standings and has one moto win to his credit as the series returns for a professional contest at one of amateur motocross’ most celebrated venues.

Tickle owns a trio of professional starts at one of the newest venues on the Pro Motocross schedule, including a third-place overall finish last June where he won the holeshot in the second 450 Class moto. In six premiere class motos, Tickle has recorded a steady 7.8 average finish, highlighting last year’s third-place result in the second moto.

“I grew up riding there,” said Tickle. “I raced a bunch of regional races there and some area qualifiers for Loretta Lynn’s. The East Coast tracks just feel more like home to me. It looks like it’s supposed to rain but with good starts and a clean track, there’s no reason we shouldn’t expect the same results. That being said, my starts have been good so that’s going to be important and it just makes it easier. If you’re up front, you don’t get as dirty, you have less chance of your goggles getting destroyed. I’m just going to focus on myself, getting good starts and staying off the ground.”

Bogle also owns three pro starts at Muddy Creek where he finished third overall in 2014 with a 4-2 showing. The Cushing, Okla., rider finished 10th last season in his first year aboard a 450 where he notched a 13-10 effort. In six total motos, including 250 and 450 Class competition, Bogle has logged an 8.3 average with his best finish of second coming in 2014.

“Even though it hasn’t been on the pro schedule very long, there’s a ton of tradition at Muddy Creek,” said Bogle. “It’s a great track and one of the staples on the amateur schedule. I’ve been there three times as a pro and have had some decent results. I finished third overall in 2014 so I feel like I’ve got some unfinished business there. It looks like there’s going to be a lot of rain in that part of the country over the weekend so I’m glad I’ve been able to ride in the mud a little bit down at the Goat Farm (team co-owner Ricky Carmichael’s training facility). Things are coming along. I’ve been working hard and making progress. We’re looking for a good weekend.”

Last weekend, Tickle parlayed a pair of fourth-place finishes into a third-place overall showing to collect his first podium of the 2017 Pro Motocross campaign. The top-three effort powered the Holly, Mich., rider from eighth to fifth in points where he now paces sixth-place Bogle by three markers as the series returns to the Volunteer State.

“High Point has always been a track I enjoyed,” said Tickle. “They changed the layout and I thought it was really good. There was a lot of rain so Saturday morning it was really wet but it developed into a really good racetrack. There were a lot of lines and a lot of places to pass. It turned out good. I was just outside the top 10 in the first moto but I was able to capitalize on some people’s mistakes and ended up fourth. Second moto, I got the holeshot and led for a bit. It was good. I was really happy with my riding.”

Bogle logged a 7-9 effort last Saturday and was scored ninth overall at day’s end. The 24-year-old 450 Class sophomore slipped to sixth in the championship where just three points separate him from Tickle for a spot in the top five.

“We had a good day at High Point but we were looking for a little more,” explained Bogle. “The track was challenging and I had a good first moto going but I ended up getting together with another guy and going down. I was running up front at the time and only lost a few spots but that was still the end of any chance for a podium. I struggled a little bit in the second moto and wound up ninth. We were definitely looking for more but they knew we were there. We had a good week of work so we’re ready for Saturday.”

The first moto of Round 5 from the Tennessee National will be televised live on MAVTV Sat., June 24 beginning at 1 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time, 10 a.m. Pacific. Television coverage for the second moto will shift to NBCSN at 3 p.m. EDT, noon Pacific.

All motos can be streamed live on the NBC Sports Gold app. NBC, NBCSN and MAVTV will combine to provide extensive television coverage over the course of the 12-round season. Capping off each round of the championship will be exclusive one-hour highlight shows on NBCSN, each airing within a handful of days of every National.
