MotoGP returns to action at Misano

The Ángel Nieto Team arrive at the San Marino round looking for a seventh straight top ten for Álvaro and more points for Karel Abraham

After the cancellation of the races at the British Grand Prix, the MotoGP World Championship teams and riders are hoping this weekend will provide the calm after the storm as the series moves to Italy for the Gran Premio di San Marino i della Riviera de Rimini. Marc Márquez arrives at round 12+1 with the same 59-point advantage over Valentino Rossi that he had following the Austrian Grand Prix, with just 175 now available in the remaining seven races of the season. Unless there is a big shock, it seems the most entertaining battle in terms of the championship will be for the runner-up position, with Rossi coming increasingly under threat from Ducati pair Jorge Lorenzo and Andrea Dovizioso.

The Ángel Nieto Team head to Misano with the same determination to shine that they took to Silverstone. Álvaro Bautista has not been outside of the top ten since Mugello and he is looking to make it seven in a row this weekend, with Spaniard fully focused on progressing to Q2 and leaving behind the bad feeling he had in the wet at Silverstone. His teammate Karel Abraham is looking forward to Misano with renewed energy and the objective of returning to the points-scoring positions at a circuit where he crashed out in the early stages of the race last year.

Álvaro Bautista: “After the cancellation of the race at Silverstone we now go to Misano, the scene of my first MotoGP podium a few years ago. Our objective remains the same – we are at a good level but we need to improve some small details, especially in conditions like we had Silverstone, with the rain. Misano is a difficult track, slow, with some hard braking, which requires a good handling bike. We will try to make sure we are in Q2 to ensure a good position to start the race from, so that we can run near the front from the first moment. We want another top ten, like we have had in recent races, so let’s see if we can have another good weekend at a track that holds good memories for me.”

Karel Abraham: “Misano is a nice track, I like it, it’s beautiful and we also had the World Ducati Week there, so we’ve had a lot of fun this year already. But at the same time it is a difficult track, mostly because it’s like a go-kart track, specially the first part, which has really tight and slow corners. Then, in the second part there’s a super-fast right corner, which I like, but it’s still difficult because you go there over 300 km/h. But yes, I’m looking forward to the San Marino GP”.
