2018-09-09 18:26
Misano Adriatico RN, Italy – Sunday 9th September

Circuit: Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli
Circuit Length: 4.2 km

The San Marino Grand Prix saw a dramatic and premature end to proceedings for PETRONAS Sprinta Racing rider Ayumu Sasaki as he was caught in a five-rider crash on the second lap.
Teammate Adam Norrodin concluded a positive weekend of progression with more points to add to his championship tally, as he crossed the line in a respectable 12th position.

Having qualified in tenth place, Ayumu Sasaki looked more determined than ever as he immediately launched into battle with the leaders on the opening lap. Whilst up into eighth position, two riders high-sided in front of the seventeen-year-old on the second lap. With nowhere to go Sasaki was thrown from his bike as he collided with the crash.

Ayumu Sasaki was immediately taken to the medical centre where it was confirmed that his left wrist is broken. - Further updates will be released from the team next week.

Johan Stigefelt - Team Manager

“That was a really unfortunate race for Ayumu. He made a really good start and was super aggressive from the beginning; I’ve never seen him so determined like today. I know he really wanted to do well and you could see it immediately in his riding. It wasn’t his fault that he crashed out; it was a racing incident; there was nothing he could do to avoid the crash in front of him. I 100% believe that he could have run in the top five today. Now we have to see how long it will take for his wrist to heel; this is the most important thing.
Adam also made a good start today and was running in the points the whole race. Unfortunately after the crash he wasn’t able to close the gap to the leaders, but still he was consistently doing good lap times. He leaves here with more points and a 12th place finish, so credit to him for that.”

#7 ADAM NORRODIN - P12

“For sure I am happy to get some points here today because every year until now, I have struggled a lot at this track. I made an OK start to the race but very soon into it, there was a big crash in front of me - from there I couldn’t close the gap to the front group. Nevertheless I’m pleased that we have been able to continue progressing throughout the whole weekend and we leave here with more points. Today’s result makes me even more motivated for Aragon.”
#71 AYUMU SASAKI - DNF

“I made a really good start in the race today and gained positions on the first lap. The bike felt really good and I knew that I could push hard and pass riders. I was up to eighth place when two riders high-sided in front of me. It all happened very quickly. It’s disappointing because I really believe that we could have fought for a podium today. This is racing though and there was nothing that I could have done to avoid the crash; I hope that the other’s riders involved are OK. Now I have to wait for my wrist to heel. I hope that I will be ready for Aragon but we have to see this next week. I know for sure that when I am back riding 100% again, our podium will be very close!”
