Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) has now won on 18 different tracks, the same of Troy Bayliss, only one shy of the all-time record held by Carl Fogarty and Noriyuki Haga.
This was the 888th podium placement for Ducati, a significant number for the Italian manufacturer, as the Ducati 888 is the most successful model in the team’s history, with 69 WorldSBK wins, spanning from Jerez 1990/1 (Raymond Roche) to Estoril 1993/2 (Carl Fogarty).
In Race 1 Chaz Davies (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) ended his points finishing streak at 20 races, his second best. He had 28 straight points finishes from Donington/1, 2015 to Sepang/2, 2016, always finishing in the top 10.
Rea took his 15th win of the season: on Sunday he is in the position to equal his personal best (16 last year) and he is aiming for the all-time season landmark of 17, set by Doug Polen in 1991.
On Sunday, Eugene Laverty (Milwaukee Aprilia) will start his 150th WorldSBK race, his 100th for Aprilia.
Gabriele Ruiu (Pedercini Racing Team) became the youngest ever rider in the points at 18 years, 4 months and 27 days, beating the long-standing record of Yuichi Takeda, winner of the 1996 Sugo/1 Race at 18 years, 8 months and 27 days.
Rea is the third man in history to take a string of 9 wins after Colin Edwards (2002) and Neil Hodgson (2003) and on Sunday he could become the first one with a string of 10.
The first race at San Juan for Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) has not been ideal. For the man who holds the all-time record of pole positions in qualifying (47), this has become the only track in the current calendar where he has not taken a pole position or a second place on the grid.
Marco Melandri (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) recorded his 4th career pole on Saturday, his first one outside Spain, as his previous three were taken in Aragon (2) and Jerez (1).
San Juan Villicum was the 40th different track where Ducati claimed a pole position in qualifying.
