Forkner Extends Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Win-Streak to Seven

Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Austin Forkner brought his win count up to four for the season as he helped extend his team’s win streak to seven at historic Daytona International Speedway. The dominating win increased Forkner’s points lead in the Eastern Regional championship to 23 as the season reached its the halfway mark. Teammate Martin Davalos was showing his own speed on the unique race track, finishing fifth in his heat race and then he overcame a fall in the main to finish 10th.

Forkner has always done well when racing at Daytona, but had to settle for a podium finish last year. This year, he was focused on keeping his mistakes to a minimum and it paid off with a heat race win and eventually the main event victory. While he grabbed the holeshot when the gate dropped in the main, he settled into second for the first two laps before making the pass and ultimately finishing ahead of second by 5.9 seconds.

“It feels amazing to win at a place like Daytona,” said Forkner. “I’ve always loved coming here even from the amateur days. The track had some really tricky parts and it broke down a bit so I just tried to maintain a good pace and try to not make any mistakes. It’s great to give another win to the team. They’ve worked so hard to get us all where we need to be.”

Davalos has produced some good results at Daytona in the past and always looks comfortable in the tricky sand sections. His night started off with a rider going down in front of him in the heat race, forcing him to overcome a last place start to finish fifth in his heat.

In the main event, he slotted into in sixth and was pushing hard to make his way forward. He was running in sixth when he went down in a rhythm section, quickly remounting and keeping his KX250 in the top 10.

“I wish I could have been able to finish higher but I went down late in the race and didn’t get a chance to catch the guys in front of me,” said Davalos. “I love coming to Daytona and feel it is sort of an equalizer, but we couldn’t make it happen tonight. Thankfully we’re healthy and ready to take on another weekend.”
