Eighth row for Khairul Idham Pawi at Circuit of The Americas2019-04-14 08:53
he PETRONAS Sprinta Racing rider places 23rd in qualifying, amidst difficult weather conditions.
Saturday proved to be a tough day for Khairul Idham Pawi and the PETRONAS Sprinta Racing team at the Americas GP. The Malaysian rider, who had not fully recovered after his crash on Friday, was unable to get out of Q1 and will start from 23rd place on the grid at COTA.
The appearance of the rain in the morning led to the postponement and eventual cancellation of FP3, preventing Khairul Idham Pawi from having a chance to improve his times from Friday and make the cut for Q2.
Hours later, with the sun out, Khairul Idham Pawi went out on track for Q1. He encountered another issue in that session, as he was unable to ride comfortably due to back pain from his crash on Friday. He would place 9th in the session with a best time of 2:13.645, putting him 23rd for the start of the third Moto2 race of the season.
The 18-lap Moto2 Americas GP will take place at 12:20pm local time.
#89 Khairul Idham Pawi
"I'm not feeling completely OK after yesterday's crash. My back hurts and so does my shoulder and that means I'm lacking a bit of strength. Also, we didn't have an FP3. It would have been better to have had that session after the crash, to regain confidence, because it is difficult to adapt when you're going directly into qualifying. At no time did I feel comfortable and it was difficult for me to set a fast lap. Tomorrow we will start from 23rd on the grid and we will continue to do our best and stay focused. The objective for tomorrow will be to fight for the points."
