Sensational Sasaki secures Sachsenring pole2019-07-06 12:53Ayumu Sasaki will start tomorrow’s German Grand Prix from first place, after taking an incredible debut Moto3 pole position at the Sachsenring. He will be joined inside the top ten by team-mate John McPhee, who completed a superb day for PETRONAS Sprinta Racing. Sasaki, a fan of the Sachsenring and a former winner at the German track in the Red Bull Rookies Cup, backed up strong pace from practice by securing the team’s second pole position of the season in the dying seconds of the qualifying session. Confident going into the 15-minute outing, he was able to put himself in the right place at the right time to ensure that none of his rivals were able to challenge his 1min 26.135secs lap. McPhee worked on race pace in the practice sessions and was unable to match his team-mate on single-lap qualifying pace. Despite this, and having to progress through Q1, tenth on the grid still offers many opportunities for tomorrow’s race. But to go from Q1 to Q2 and end up tenth is a good result, and I know I can fight. The difficult part of the weekend is out of the way because I know that we can be really strong in the race.
