Jakub Kornfeil to start from fifth row of the grid for Andalucia Grand Prix2020-07-28 03:02
The MotoE World Cup held its second qualifying session of 2020 this Saturday at the Jerez-Angel Nieto Circuit. Jakub Kornfeil will start from fifteenth for the Andalucia GP race, after another day of steady progress in his first season in the electric motorcycle series.
As he has been doing since his debut in the class just over a week ago, the WithU Motorsport rider took advantage of the morning's Free Practice session to continue improving his performance with an unfamiliar bike. It was on his seventh attempt that he set his best lap to date, breaking the 1:50 barrier for the first time thanks to a 1:49.890 lap.
In the afternoon, the Czech rider was the first out for E-Pole qualifying. Kornfeil made some small mistakes, which together with the high track temperatures prevented him from getting close to his morning time. Nevertheless, the WithU Motorsport man stopped the clock at 1:50.229 and tomorrow will round off the fifth row on the grid, in 15th position.
The second race of the 2020 MotoE World Cup season, held over six laps, will begin on Sunday at 10:05am local time.
#84 JAKUB KORNFEIL
"Today the E-Pole was more difficult for me compared to last week. It was very hot and a little windy. I also made some mistakes on my lap that made me slower than in previous sessions. I know we still have room for improvement. On the out lap I felt comfortable, but at the start of the hot lap I was too late on the brakes, and that hindered me on other sectors. I'm not entirely satisfied with the result, but the positive thing is that we have riders behind us. That means that we have not made any serious mistakes -such as exceeding the track limits or receiving a penalty. Both the bike and I are ready for tomorrow's race. We will try to enjoy it to the fullest. I want to thank the team for the great work they have been doing. I feel that after two weeks I am starting to adapt to the class, and that is without a doubt a very good thing."
