Jakub Kornfeil takes first points of the season at Jerez

2020-07-28 02:02
Rounding off a positive weekend for WithU Motorsport at the Andalucia GP, Jakub Kornfeil took his first four points of the year in a dramatic race. The Czech set his best result in a MotoE whilst also fighting in the rear group of the race.

Kornfeil had a difficult start, dropping two positions on the opening lap. However, the good pace he had found this weekend allowed him to closely follow the riders in front of him. With a fastest time of 1:49.611, his best at the track to date, he was able to compete for points throughout the six-lap race. Finally, after several of his rivals dropped out, the WithU Motorsport rider crossed the finish line in 12th position.

After two races in the 2020 season, Kornfeil is 16th in the overall standings with a total of 4 points. The competition now takes a break and will return to action at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli on September 11-13th, alongside the San Marino GP.

Matteo Ballarin - Team Principal
"We have finished these two weekends at Jerez and the first two races of the MotoE season. We are happy with how these first two rounds have gone. We know that Jakub [Kornfeil] joined the team just before the season started and that he has had to learn many things in a short time, but we are getting there. In today's race, he was at the back of the group and was able to fight and get his first points of the year, something which we are very happy about. Furthermore, his times are getting closer to those of his rivals; in just 10 days he has lowered his best lap by more than four seconds.

We have done a great job in these two consecutive weekends and now we will have to wait more than a month until the next round, at Misano. I want to end by thanking the entire team for their great effort and the good work they are doing in these new circumstances for the competition.”

#84 Jakub Kornfeil
“I feel very good. I'm very satisfied with myself and with the work done by the entire team. The last two weeks have been fantastic and I have learned a lot. Today's race was one that I enjoyed to the fullest; I had a great battle with Maria Herrera throughout. The bike worked very well this weekend, and even though my start was not bad, I still have to learn how to manage the first sector of the races. There were many crashes, so it was important to stay upright until the end; now I am even happier and motivated because I have achieved my first points in only my second race.

I could not be happier. I came here off riding with the smallest bikes to riding with the largest ones, which are completely different, and a few sessions later I am already competing with my rivals. I am very grateful to Matteo [Ballarin] and Johan [Stigefelt] for giving me this opportunity, and to the entire team for allowing me to have this experience. I can't wait for Misano to arrive!”
