High hopes for PETRONAS Sprinta Racing heading into Emilia Romagna GP

2020-09-16 01:58
With a first win of the 2020 Moto3 season last time out, PETRONAS Sprinta Racing’s John McPhee is confident of more success at Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, as the MotoGP paddock stays in place for the Emilia Romagna GP. Continued progress is the aim for Khairul Idham Pawi, who continues his return from surgery.

Fresh from taking his first victory of the year, McPhee is hoping to maintain his good form at the 4.2km long Italian circuit. The Scot will also want to avoid the disappointing position on Sunday’s grid, although his win last weekend and podium last year both came from starting outside of the top four rows. John goes into this weekend third in the championship, 14 points shy of the current leader.

It was a good weekend for team-mate KIP at the San Marino GP, who made his racing return after surgery on his hand. Despite experiencing some pain, the Malaysian rider was able to improve his lap times each session. KIP aims to improve his performance from last weekend, continue adapting to his Honda NSF250RW and make progress towards achieving a race finish within the points positions.

Round eight of the Moto3 championship will get underway with Free Practice 1 at 9am local time (3pm MYT) on Friday, with Sunday’s 23-lap race due to start at 11am local time (5pm MYT).

John McPhee

It’s great to be going into this next race having won here last weekend, I want to maintain the momentum we’ve built. That race couldn’t have gone any better for me and I felt so strong. With this next round of the championship also at Misano, we go into the event with a lot of confidence that we can have another strong result. Of course, I gave myself a lot of work to do in qualifying, so I’ll be aiming for a better starting position this time! Let’s just wait and see what happens, but I’m excited to be going racing again.
