Catalunya calls for Xavi Vierge and Jake Dixon

This weekend will see PETRONAS Sprinta Racing’s Moto2 riders Xavi Vierge and Jake Dixon in action for the third consecutive weekend, as the Gran Premi de Catalunya gets underway at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

Vierge goes into his home round secure in the knowledge that he will have a seat on the 2021 Moto2 grid with PETRONAS Sprinta Racing, after signing a one-year contract extension. Although the Spaniard is yet to step onto the Moto2 podium at home, his form in recent races, which includes a stint in the lead of the Emilia Romagna GP, suggests that this weekend might be the time he does so.

Team-mate Dixon has only experienced the Catalunya circuit once in his racing career, which ended with another rider taking him out on the final corner of the penultimate lap last year. The Brit, who has been in top form in recent events – taking his first Moto2 top-six finish last time out – will be looking to maintain momentum at the final triple-header race in September and make further progress.

The first Moto2 Free Practice session of the Gran Premi de Catalunya will take place at 10.55am local time (4.55pm MYT) Friday, with a slightly later than usual start time for Sunday’s 22-lap race: 1.20pm local time (7.20pm MYT).

It’s my home race so it will be a very special weekend for me, although this year it will be a little strange compared to normal because we won’t have our fans in the grandstands supporting us. It’s always a pleasure to ride the Barcelona track. It’s a track that I love! You have to be so smooth because the track is so flowing; it makes it really nice to ride. I’m really looking forward to getting there and it’s even better because I know I will be staying with the team in 2021, so I go into this race very happy.
