Career best qualifying for Dixon at Aragon GP

2020-10-17 03:45
PETRONAS Sprinta Racing’s Jake Dixon had his best ever qualifying at MotorLand Aragón today, and will start the Aragon GP fourth. He became the first of four Moto2 riders ever to lap in the 1min 51secs at the circuit, while team-mate Vierge, who battled the pain of his ongoing injury throughout the sessions, will start 20th.

Waiting until the end of the FP3, when the conditions were more conducive to time-attack runs, Dixon ended the session eighth and set a 1min 52.830secs lap, which saw him advance directly to Q2. The Brit became the first Moto2 rider ever to lap in the 1min 51secs around MotorLand Aragón and had his career best qualifying after finishing Q2 fourth with a 1min 51.999secs lap, which was only 0.129secs shy of the front row.

Team-mate Vierge also bided his time in FP3 and looked set to make it through to Q2 as well. However his fastest lap was deleted after he exceeded track limits. His 1min 53.227secs lap saw him end the session 17th. Still bruised and battered from his crash last weekend, the Spaniard gritted his teeth in Q1 to set a 1min 52.989secs lap, which will see him start tomorrow’s race from 20th.

In a slight change to the schedule, the Moto2 Warm Up session will now take place at 10.30am local time (4.30pm MYT). Dixon and Vierge’s 21-lap race will now see the lights go out at 1.20pm local time (7.20pm MYT).
