More Aragón Moto3 adventures for PETRONAS Sprinta Racing

2020-10-21 00:20
This weekend will see PETRONAS Sprinta Racing’s Moto3 riders take to the MotorLand Aragón circuit for a second week running, as John McPhee, who has just extended his contract with the team, and Khairul Idham Pawi take part in the Gran Premio de Teruel.

McPhee will be coming into the second weekend at MotorLand Aragón with renewed confidence, after re-signing for the team and earning himself a top-five finish last time out – despite a long lap penalty during the race. Eager to continue reducing the points deficit in the riders’ standings, the Scot will be aiming to stay within the podium fight during Sunday’s race.

Team-mate KIP will be aiming to utilise the data gathered from the Aragon GP to continue his progress and improve the feeling aboard his Honda NSF250RW around the Spanish circuit, taking advantage of the direct comparison that can be made with back-to-back races at the same track. The Malaysian will be hoping to end the October triple-header with a good result.

The Gran Premio de Teruel gets underway for the Moto3 pairing at 10am local time (4pm MYT) on Friday with Free Practice 1, with Sunday’s 19-lap race due to begin slightly later than normal at 11.20am local time (6.20pm MYT).

John McPhee

The long lap penalty last weekend really didn’t help us, but I was really happy to finish fifth in that race. The fact that I was 17th at one point means that we definitely have the pace for during the race and we know that we are in a good position to fight for a podium, maybe even the win this weekend. We know what to expect during qualifying as well, so hopefully I’ll be able to start a bit further up the grid as well. It also feels really good heading into the race knowing that my future next year is secure with the team.
