PETRONAS Sprinta Racing aiming for fruitful FrenchGP

2021-05-12 14:26
In just a few day’s time, PETRONAS Sprinta Racing’s Moto2 riders will be back in action for the Grand Prix de France, at Le Mans, after a solid home GP for Xavi Vierge. Jake Dixon returns after concussion ruled him out of the SpanishGP Moto2 race.

With a strong sixth place finish last time out in Spain, Vierge will be hoping to maintain the positive momentum at Le Mans, score another brace of points and move himself further up the championship standings, from where he currently sits in eighth with 26 points. The Spaniard has continued to make good progress this season and will be looking to join the fight for a podium finish. Although Xavi is yet to place within the top-three at the French circuit and unfortunately crashed out of the 2020 edition, he did start the 2018 FrenchGP from the front row – having qualified second.

Team-mate Dixon returns after being ruled out of the race at Jerez, due to a concussion sustained during Warm Up last time out. After recording a no-score, the Brit will be eager to return to the Le Mans circuit and secure a strong result, especially as he spent a large part of the 2020 race at the French track in the lead. Although that event did ultimately end in heartbreak, Jake has shown that he has the potential to come away from the FrenchGP with a good points haul, which would help him improve upon his 17th place in the championship standings.

The weekend’s action will start for Vierge and Dixon with FP1 at 10.55am local time (4.55pm MYT) on Friday, with Sunday’s 25-lap Moto2 race due to get underway at the usual time of 12.20pm local time (6.20pm MYT).

Le Mans is a track that I really like and we always have good races there. In fact I think one of my best races was there in 2018. I started the race from second, but then had a problem with the bike and had to start from last position. I was able to make a great comeback to 5th though! Last year we were trying for a podium position, although it was not to be, so let’s hope that we can arrive there this weekend with a good feeling on the bike and achieve that podium place. We really want to achieve that goal and I’m aiming to be on the front two rows so that we can fight for that podium position.
