Normal service resumes for PETRONAS Sprinta Racing at Misano

This weekend will see PETRONAS Sprinta Racing back in action for the second of two back-to-back GPs, where Xavi Vierge will be reunited with Moto2 team-mate Jake Dixon at the Gran Premio di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini.

Last year’s SanMarinoGP proved to be one of Vierge’s best results of the season, finishing just outside of the podium places in fourth. In addition to this, the Spaniard started the following race at the Misano circuit from the front row. Hoping to recapture some of this success this weekend, and make amends for the unfortunate crash in his home race at Aragon last time out, Xavi goes into the 14th round of the year 11th in the world championship with 67 points.

After enjoying two GPs as a MotoGP rider, standing in for the recovering Franco Morbidelli, Dixon makes his return to the Moto2 squad this weekend at Misano. Although the first of the two races at the San Marino circuit last year saw the Brit finish the race just outside of the points, he enjoyed a more successful EmiliaRomagnaGP, finishing sixth. With 21 points, Jake currently sits 19th in the riders’ standings.

The SanMarinoGP will get underway for Vierge and Dixon with FP1 at 10.55am local time (4.55pm MYT) Friday, while Sunday’s 25-lap Moto2 race will commence at 12.20pm local time (6.20pm MYT).

Xavi Vierge

Misano was one of our best races last year, so we need to make sure that we have a strong start Friday and that we can fight for the top positions all weekend. I really enjoy riding there because it’s almost like two separate tracks combined into one. Last year we had the new asphalt and it gave us so much grip, so I really enjoyed it a lot. I can’t wait to get there, be back on my bike and hopefully fight for the top positions in the race.
