Junior Talent Team rounds out 2021 in the points

After rain interrupted much of practice and qualifying at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo, Sunday dawned dry if still a little damp on track. And the conditions only improved, with the FIM Moto3™ Junior World Championship – and the Junior Talent Team – able to round out the season with two dry races.

In the first, Tatchakorn Buasri made some good progress up into the points after a tougher qualifying, the Thai rider tagged onto a freight train of riders fighting it out for eighth. He took P13 and three points, taking his second best finish at the final round. In Race 2 he suffered a DNF, but JTT teammate Takuma Matsuyama put more points on the board for the team.

The number 32 didn’t make the flag in Race 1 but bounced back in the afternoon to round out the season with points. He took P14 to leave Valencia with a couple more added to his total, and riding through the pain barrier too.
For Eddie O’Shea, meanwhile, the aim was two finishes and that’s exactly what the Brit brought home. In Race 1 he came out on top in an incredibly tight duel for P21, just 0.045 ahead over the line. In Race 2 he just missed out on 20th in another close battle, but also finished ten seconds closer to the race winner – a good afternoon’s work as his experience increases.

That’s a wrap on 2021 and a rollercoaster season. For Buasri and O’Shea it was valuable experience, and for Mario Aji – not racing in Valencia after breaking his femur in training – it was his final stepping stone on the Road to MotoGP™ as the Indonesian now moves to the Moto3™ World Championship. For Matsuyama it was a return to the podium he got to know so well in the Idemitsu Asia Talent Cup, with the Japanese rider taking that stunning second place on our first visit to Valencia this year.

The Junior Talent Team would like to thank all of our partners and sponsors for racing with us this season, and looks forward to beginning a new era in next year as the Championship becomes FIM JuniorGP. Join us for more in 2022!
