Lina Van de Mars and Giulia Maroni ready for the Baja Hungary2022-08-05 04:13
The FIA European Cup for Cross-Country Bajas moves to Hungary this weekend for the 4th round after the Baja Dehesa Extremadura in Spain, the Rally Greece Offroad and the Italian Baja.
Laying between the mountainous region of Bakony and north of Lake Balaton the track of the Hungarian Baja is a special one among the Bajas. The playground will be once again Várpalota, the largest active shooting range of Central and Eastern Europe, where military helicopters and tanks are not an uncommon sight.
It is on this terrain, fast, but also known for its tight turns and very technical bends, that the competitors will compete for three days. The 415 kms of special stages will put drivers and machines under stress considered also the high temperatures during this time of year.
At the start, among the 93 participants from 4 continents and 22 countries, the CST Polaris Xtremeplus Team. Currently Third in the FIA European, Lina Van de Mars and Giulia Maroni will aim at consolidating, and if possible improving this position.
Looking at the entry list, interestingly, there are 20 drivers / co-drivers out of the 93 competitors showing that off-road racing is becoming more and more also among the women.
Lina Van de Mars: “I really looking forward to return racing. It’s my first time I compete the Hungarian Baja and I’m happy that Italy was not too long ago, only 4 weeks, so it will be much easier to get into the rhythm again.
I look forward to race on the gravel and I’m curious to see how it will on the fast tracks with our Polaris. Out target is to finish the race and do in the best possible way. I arrived one day earlier which allowed me to do everything on time, I am here with my motorhome so that I can sleep in the bivouac enjoying the rally atmosphere at the maximum”.
Giulia Maroni, the co-driver: “This is the first time that I’m competing in the Baja Hungary, so the terrain is quiet new, but I expect many fast tracks. This is the third race for us this season and there is a very good understanding in the cockpit of our Polaris. We are currently third in the championship, and I really look forward to consolidate our position in the championship”.
Marco Piana, the team owner and manager: “We are ready for the Baja Hungary, the third round for Lina. I believe she can do well here and score important points for the championship. The experience gained in Spain and Italy will be very helpful and our target is to fight for the podium”.
Today the team will go through the administrative and technical checks before a seven-kilometre Prologue in the afternoon.
