Stotz Racing sets 1/8 mile record at AMA Prostar Indianapolis National

Schaumburg, Ill. - August 17, 2005 - Honda's Kent Stotz raised the AMA Prostar Pro Street bar another notch last weekend, setting the 1/8-mile speed record at 159 mph at the Pingel Thunder Motorcycle Nationals at Indianapolis Raceway Park, August 13-14. "We're touching 160 mile-per-hour in a city block," said Stotz, putting the achievement in perspective.

The 660-foot top speed is officially measured once a year by AMA Prostar and the conditions at Indianapolis Raceway, a track known for its well-prepared surface, were ideal for the challenge. For the race weekend, Stotz also recorded the quickest quarter-mile ET and the second-fastest top-speed—7.42 seconds at 197 mph—in the second round of eliminations. "Velocity Racing Turbo Systems helped us achieve the power in our 550-plus horsepower Blackbird, but we've been searching for traction," said Stotz. "We found traction here at Indy, but we wheelied in the quarterfinals and did not advance."

Stotz has been on the road four of the last five weekends and just concluded a featured-guest appearance on Speed TV's 2-Wheel Tuesday with host Greg White. "I want to thank Greg and the good people at 2-Wheel Tuesday. We were able to give viewers an appreciation of the technology behind motorcycle drag racing and the skill needed to compete."

Stotz can catch his breath as the AMA Prostar series takes a summer break, then the mighty CBR will be back in action at the Schnitz Memphis Blues Nationals at Memphis Motorsports Park in Memphis, Tennessee, October 1-2.
