Gloves are off at Polite but Tense Supercross Press Conference

Vegas prepares itself for a showdown at the Monster Energy AMA Supercross finals this Saturday at Sam Boyd Stadium.

In a polite but tense Supercross press conference, rivals Chad Reed and Kevin Windham did not make eye contact as both described their feelings going into the final leg of the series. Well spoken, Windham promised a great show for his fans. Windham also told Bikeland that he wanted to help the industry "break the mold of early retirement" for racers.

When asked his thoughts about the large batch of Lites riders coming to Supercross in 2009, Chad Reed questioned why so many riders wait so long to move up to the big bikes, but said he was looking forward to racing with the '09 lineup.

When recapping the action from previous week's race in Seattle and all the Honda riders in the lead, Reed told us that "one guy took it a little far, he crossed it".

Both riders sidestepped questions regarding the words exchanged between them on the podium of the Seattle Supercross. Windham told Bikeland that he was there to fight "for the Championship for me".

A seventh place finish or better is all that stands between Reed and the Championship.

The season finale takes place at Las Vegas' Sam Boyd Stadium May 3rd, at 7pm.
