BRIDGESA COMMENTARY BY DOUG MEYERWednesday January 25th, 2006
Nothing special- just stuff I like. This was one of the most interesting events I've ever attended of any kind. The best of the best in cars and enthusiasts. Remember, I was there marketing an airplane but it made no difference- gearheads are gearheads. An incredible number of the "car guys" are pilots and motorcyclists. So many interesting and interested people. A great experience. Posted by Doug @ 3:14PM - Permalink - 2 Comments - 0 Trackbacks Tags: cars Barret-Jackson Monday January 16th, 2006
To use an over-used cliché, I think I'm in heaven. For a gearhead car guy like me, that is. See those white tents? Under those tents are approximately 1000 cars. In there is every hot car that that you ever had, wanted to have, knew somebody had, wished you had, or had a picture of on your bedroom wall. ![]() I'm nearly catatonic and have to repeatedly raise my jaw back into position as I walk up and down the rows. ![]() I am at the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Scottsdale, Arizona. Better known as simply "The Barrett-Jackson", this is the largest collector car auction in the world. Last year they sold 887 cars for 61 MILLION dollars in six days. This year it is bigger. You may have seen the proceedings on Speed last year and this year's live presentation starts Tuesday Jan 17th. Why am I here? Well, it's the perfect demographic for marketing the Columbia, a half million dollar airplane, that demographic being a grown-up gearhead or speedfreak with a 7 figure toy budget. There are muscle cars, race cars, street rods, classics, and antiques. There is also "automobilia" which is basically thousand dollar antique oil cans and signs, and five thousand dollar gas pumps from the '50's. So far, I have seen such things as TWO 60's original, aluminum front end Hemi's (one an original Ramcharger's car), several original 302 Z-28's (one with the very limited cross-ram inlet), "number's matching" 'Vettes of ALL years, a Porsche Spyder like the one that James Dean bought the farm in, and street rods so nice they make you weep. I'm going to be here all week and I'll try and share some images with you. Watch it live on Speed. It's going to be nuts. ![]() ![]() So, I\\\'ve got this thing for Cubic Inches and Carburetors........ Posted by Doug @ 2:31PM - Permalink - 1 Comments - 0 Trackbacks Tags: cars Barret-Jackson |
