While today has consisted of mostly practices, the Superbike and Formula Extreme classes have qualifying. Earlier this afternoon riders like Ben Spies, Mat Mladin, and Jason Disalvo took the top 3 spots of group 2 of Superbike Qualifying. In group 1, Luca Scassa on the MV Agusta F4-1000R took the 1st place position followed by Gary Mason and Robertino Pietri on Suzuki GSXR 1000s. Formula Extreme qualifying for group 2 is now in progress but group 1s top spots were taken by David Anthony on a Yamaha R6, Bobby Fong on a Suzuki GSXR-600, and Tony Meiring also on a R6. At his post-qualifying press conference, Ben Spies sounded confident and ready for whatever the weekend may hold. With rain clouds lurking around many riders including Spies are going out realizing that today could very well be their last chance to qualify. Ben Spies should have no problems as he qualified in 1st place with a lap time of 1:20.454. This race is a make or break for most riders competing heavily for a title. Since there are only 2 races left (including this one) for the 2007 season, if you do good here than you have a better chance in winning a championship title at Laguna in a few weeks. Basically, every rider is pushing the limits, and going as fast as possible. In the superbike class, the top speed set by Ben Spies was 113. 655 MPH. Keep checking here for more exciting news and updates as the weekend continues on.
