2007 Road Atlanta Recap
This year’s racing at Road Atlanta was to say the least, interesting. Ben Spies and Mat Mladin battled it out in the Superbike Class. With the two of them being team mates, it made things a little more competitive. Jamie Hacking did very well in each qualifying and race by making the top 3 in each. The supersport race was insane. Jamie Hacking and Josh Hayes gave it all they had and made it a very close race. Steve Rapp made a strong 7th place finish in the Supersport. By making a top 10 finish he proved that he does like the 600. It was also great to see Ben Bostrom on the podium again in the Superstock race. All I have to say is what a great weekend of racing.

AMA Superbike Top 3:
1.Mathew Mladin
2.Ben Spies
3.Jamie Hacking

AMA Supersport Top 3:

2.Jamie Hacking

AMA Superstock Top 3:

2.Ben Bostrom

Superbike Race 1 Results
Today was race one of the Superbike Class here at Road Atlanta and I must say, it was action-packed. After starting in podium, Suzuki rider Ben Spies went down causing a red flag. Luckily for Ben he wasn’t hurt and got back into the swing of things after the re-start. Unfortunately he had start from the back row. After an awesome performance he ended up with great results. The top 3 positions went to Matt Mladin, Ben Spies, and Jamie Hacking. We will have to see how tommorrow’s race goes as well.
Taking the top 10 positions:

1.Matt Mladin
2.Ben Spies
3.Jamie Hacking
4.Aaron Yates
5.Jake Zemke
6.Roger Hayden
7.Matt Lynn
8.Luca Scassa
9.Jake Holden
10.Tommy Hayden

Update from Road Atlanta
The first day of the 2nd to last round of the AMA Superbike Championship is well underway here at Road Atlanta. It’s Friday August 31st 2007 and the sound of race bikes is booming through the country side of Brasleton, GA. Riders and teams alike are getting into “race mode” as they prepare for the weekend’s qualifying and racing.

While today has consisted of mostly practices, the Superbike and Formula Extreme classes have qualifying. Earlier this afternoon riders like Ben Spies, Mat Mladin, and Jason Disalvo took the top 3 spots of group 2 of Superbike Qualifying. In group 1, Luca Scassa on the MV Agusta F4-1000R took the 1st place position followed by Gary Mason and Robertino Pietri on Suzuki GSXR 1000s. Formula Extreme qualifying for group 2 is now in progress but group 1’s top spots were taken by David Anthony on a Yamaha R6, Bobby Fong on a Suzuki GSXR-600, and Tony Meiring also on a R6.
At his post-qualifying press conference, Ben Spies sounded confident and ready for whatever the weekend may hold. With rain clouds lurking around many riders including Spies are going out realizing that today could very well be their last chance to qualify. Ben Spies should have no problems as he qualified in 1st place with a lap time of 1:20.454.

This race is a make or break for most riders competing heavily for a title. Since there are only 2 races left (including this one) for the 2007 season, if you do good here than you have a better chance in winning a championship title at Laguna in a few weeks. Basically, every rider is pushing the limits, and going as fast as possible. In the superbike class, the top speed set by Ben Spies was 113. 655 MPH.
Keep checking here for more exciting news and updates as the weekend continues on. Just make sure to watch all of the action on Speed Channel!
